Did you ever read the ingredients on a tube of antiseptic cream? How would you like to treat your scrapes and bruises and a whole lot more with 100% pure natural product if you could? Well, you can if you know where to look, and what you’re looking for. The best place to begin your search is your favorite health food store. Ask them about Tea Tree Oil. Most likely you’ll get quality information from knowledgable personel.
Before you shop it’s a good idea to learn a little about tea tree oil and why you should own it. Tea tree oil has a long and credible history and is deemed completely safe when used properly. In fact, during World War II, Australian soldiers were given tea tree oil in their first-aid kits. This healing oil, distilled from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree which only grows in Australia, has since become popular worldwide.
I have used tea tree oil for many years and can testify to it’s healing properties when it comes to cuts and scrapes. But that’s just the beginning. Tea tree oil is a natural broad based spectrum germicide and antiseptic that kills bacteria, yeasts and viruses. It can be used for a long list of ailments and conditions ranging from athletes foot to head lice to insect bites. Beyond that, many many products are available that contain tea tree oil. Some examples are toothpaste, shampoo, lotions, soap and insect repellent. And all these are available as pure and natural.
How do you know if you’re getting the real thing……….pure and natural? Well, unfortunately there are manufacturers out there who “cut” their product with inexpensive ingredients. And, it can be almost impossible to tell. However, good tea oil is strongly scented, so that bottle I once bought that smelled more like vegetable oil was easy to spot as a fake.
Better to stick with a trusted manufacturer, and that is exactly what I do. Desert Essence and Thursday Plantation are two excellent brands. They are most likely available at your health food store and often drug and grocery chains. Both brands are available from The Vitamin Shoppe. For those of you who want to purchase from “green” companies, Desert Essence products are manufactured with renewable energy and they have a line of organic products as well.
It’s also nice to know that even the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes the benefits of tea oil. A study by them notes that tea tree oil is well documented as far back as the early 1950’s. The study also notes the uses of the oil as an antiseptic, a fungicide, and the treatment of minor skin irritations, sunburn, acne and scrapes and bruises.
Always use tea oil sparingly drop by drop. Some people use Q-tips, cotton or cloth which dry out and waste this precious oil. Pouring it out of the bottle is insane. My solution was to buy a small brown medicine bottle from my pharmacist that had a small brush in the lid. Works great and there’s no waste. Just brush it on. Bottles with glass droppers work well too. There it is. Another miracle herb from nature to heal and sustain us the correct way.
