So you’re in a rut. You have no control, or so you think. Wrong! You do indeed have control over how you view and deal with ALL of life’s situations. Your attitude and mental state determine how difficult your life actually is. And, the most interesting thing is this: Your brain works a whole lot better if you eat good nutritious foods. Good whole food nourishes your entire body including your brain. It stands to reason a healthy brain is more capable of dealing with whatever life throws at us. I believe there are quite a few studies around that confirm this.
Lots of smarter people than I agree that the lack of good nourishing food is the root cause of a number of problems related to the brain and it’s ability to function well. I do believe one of the villians is junk food, and we have just begun to see that fallout, especially with kids. So, get started by deciding to eat good food that actually helps your brain get and stay healthier. And get some exercise too. Anything you want, so long as it provides aerobic activity. My very favorite is just plain walking. It is the healthy brain that makes the smart decisions in life.
Now that we’ve covered the first step, here are a few things you can do to (and they’re free too). I’m sort of known for looking at the world with “rose colored glasses”, and that is probably true. However, I don’t take pills, don’t have high blood pressure and I sleep very well, thank you. Overall, I like being nice to people, because they are almost always nice back. I try to be reasonable with the disagreable, but will stand my ground if necessary. Smiling and laughing is good, especially with little kids.
On the most personal level, people can effect their lives positively just by taking a little time to slow down a bit, get organized, and simplify and unclutter life. Be a list maker-and get REAL good at prioritizing too. One of my favorites is “live each day with an attitude of gratitude”. Count your blessings. We have more than most. This one gets easier as we get older: “Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe”!!
This is just a small sampling of things you can do for yourself that not only make you healthier physically, but mentally as well. A healthier mind helps you take control of your life with better judgement calls when you have to make decisions, be they as small as which variety of tomatoes to choose, or big life decisions that really require a clear head to analyze and act upon. I hope you eat well, and live well because of it.
